District Job Descriptions
POSITION: GOVERNOR
ELECTION: Shall be elected by ballot biennially at the regular scheduled annual conference. Any nominee who shall receive a majority of valid votes cast shall be declared elected.
TERM OF OFFICE: Two years
ROLE: Supervises the affairs of the District and stays informed of District and International policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Board Meetings: To develop agenda prior to meeting and to preside at all meetings of the District Board of Directors including:
    1. Post-Conference (held Sunday following Conference)
    2. Mid-Year (held the evening before Fall Leadership Event, unless Event not held)
    3. Pre-Conference (held the Thursday evening before the first day of Conference)
  2. Appointments: To appoint the District Secretary, all standing committees, and special committees as outlined in the District Policies, except the Nominating Committee.
  3. Theme and Goals: To support the use of the International Theme and Goals for the biennium with the addition of special goals as deemed necessary.
  4. International Board: To review all proceedings forwarded by the International Board. To prepare all reports as requested by International.
  5. Correspondence: To correspond with club presidents as necessary and answer all inquiries by mail or phone expediently. Send letters of welcome, plus the most recent issue of News of Mighty Ninth, to all new members of the District.
  6. District Visitations: To assign a yearly visitation schedule to each Board Member and to arrange the Governor’s visitation schedule. In arranging the schedule, it must be taken into consideration that the Governor must visit all clubs either as Governor or Governor-Elect. Visitation involves writing a letter prior to the visit, conducting the visitation, sending a thank you and evaluation to the club president, and writing the follow-up report for the club file, as well a short oral report at either the Mid-Year or Pre-Conference Board Meeting.
  7. Communications Coordinator: To coordinate the communications activities, including the News of Mighty Ninth and the Marketing & Public Relations programs.
  8. News of Mighty Ninth (District Service Bulletin): To coordinate the publication of at least four editions per year, including the “Call to Conference” to be sent to all members of the District with assistance of the News of Mighty Ninth editor. To provide information pertinent to the District in the form of articles and to provide a photo to be used in District publications.
  9. Conference: To select them, appoint chairman, plan program and preside at annual conference to be held the first weekend in April, unless that weekend Is Easter or tax day. Arrange for the visit of the International visitor, including a private hotel room and transportation from the airport. Coordinate the publishing and mailing with the News of Mighty Ninth editor of the “Call to Conference”. Plan the President-Elect training for the first Conference of your biennium.
  10. Fall Leadership Event: To work with the District Program Coordinator to determine the location of and the workshops for the Fall Leadership Event. The mid-year Board meeting will be held the evening before the event.
  11. International Convention: To attend the International Convention held in July of odd numbered years and to disseminate information gained there to the District Board and clubs.
  12. Special Events: To attend charter banquets and other District events as invited and requested.
  13. Program: To be responsible for the actualization of the District Goals and Long Range Plan during the biennium.
  14. Files: To develop and maintain a rotating file to be passed on to the next Governor.
  15. District History: To create the biennium entry for the District History at the conclusion of term of office of Governor. Send copy to the Web Coordinator to be posted on the District Website. Send hard or soft copy to Abilene, so they can make copies to be included in the District History book given to the Helen Hooker Award winner at Conference.
  16. Correspondence: To send copies of all correspondence to the Governor-Elect, in order to keep the Governor-Elect fully informed of all District activities.
  17. Annual Report: To prepare an annual report to be presented to the Conference body each year of the biennium.
NOTE: The District will reimburse the Governor for the above listed responsibilities as designated in the District Policies and Procedures.
