2026 Central Texas Flood Disaster

7-17-2026

Our state has once again been devastated by catastrophic flooding in Central Texas—just one year after another tragic flood struck many of the same communities. While some families and organizations were still recovering from last year's disaster, they are now facing yet another heartbreaking loss.

After experiencing several consecutive days of destructive flooding across the region, I reached out to the Altrusa International Foundation to request Disaster Relief Assistance on behalf of our affected communities. I am pleased to share the following compassionate and timely response:

Dear Governor Kierce & District Nine Altrusans,
I am pleased to let you know that the Altrusa International Foundation Board of Trustees has approved District Nine’s request for a $5,000 Disaster Relief Aid Grant to support the OneStar Foundation's Rebuild Texas Fund.
Thank you for bringing this important need to our attention and for your leadership in advocating for those impacted by the devastating flooding in Central Texas. We are grateful for the opportunity to support these recovery efforts through District Nine's recommendation.
Best,

Our state has been struck by an unimaginable tragedy during what should have been a weekend of Independence Day celebrations—filled with joy, family, and community. Instead, it has turned into a horrific nightmare, the effects of which will take a very long time to heal and recover from.

Early Saturday morning, as the devastating news continued to unfold from Friday’s events, I immediately reached out to the Altrusa International Foundation to request Disaster Relief Aid. I am pleased to share that by early Monday morning, I received the following response:

Dear Kimberly & District Nine Altrusans,

I am writing to inform you that the Board of Trustees has approved disaster relief aid in the amount of $5,000 to support the flooding relief efforts of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. A check was sent in this morning’s mail to the Community Foundation on behalf of District Nine and the Altrusa International Foundation.

Thank you for your prompt and compassionate response to this devastating holiday weekend disaster by swiftly requesting critical aid. As relief efforts begin, we hope this support brings some measure of comfort and assistance to those impacted.

A huge "thank you" to those who have contributed to the Altrusa International Foundation in the past. District Nine’s generous support every year during our District Conference is a powerful testament that our contributions truly come back to our communities in meaningful and beneficial ways. Your generosity is what enables us to respond when communities need us. This is one of the many reasons we encourage every member and club to continue supporting the Altrusa International Foundation — it makes a difference when it matters most.

Continued prayers are needed for all those impacted by the Texas flooding. If you or a family member was directly impacted by the recent flooding, please let me know.

As Altrusans, we are committed to Leading to a Better Community, and it is through compassionate action in times like these that we live out our Altrusa mission.
