Welcome to Altrusa Copperas Cove
Altrusa is a non-profit organization of members from all walks of life united in community service. It was organized in 1917 in Nashville, Tennessee and currently consists of 392 clubs in 19 countries. Altrusa International of Copperas Cove, Texas, Inc. was chartered on April 23, 1991. The club is governed by Club Officers and a Board of Directors. Currently, there are 24 members. Altrusa Copperas Cove hosts a golf classic, a fundraiser held annually in the fall. Funds raised by this year's golf classic and our handmade quilt raffle will fund the club service projects and contributions for the following year.

What does Altrusa do?
Giving over 1 million volunteer hours annually, throughout 11 countries, our focus is Literacy along with specific projects unique to our individual community. In Copperas Cove, Texas, we serve children, elderly, and disadvantaged persons through a variety of donations and hands-on service projects. Altrusa Copperas Cove History
ALTRUSA INTERNATIONAL OF COPPERAS COVE, TEXAS, INC. IS ONE OF THE CLUBS IN DISTRICT NINE (TEXAS) and WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1991. MEMBERSHIP GENERALLY RUNS BETWEEN TWENTY-FIVE AND THIRTY MEMBERS EACH YEAR.
The prime purpose of Altrusa of Copperas Cove is to provide service, locally and internationally, through community service projects and donations that result from our annual fundraisers. These fundraisers have evolved through the years:
- Annual golf classic is our main fundraiser
- Annual handmade quilt raffle

COMMUNITY GRANTS
Altrusa Copperas Cove presents monetary donations to:
- Two scholarships to graduating seniors each year.
- CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)
- AWARE Central Texas preventing child abuse
- Blue Santa – Christmas gifts for underprivileged children
- Copperas Cove Independent School District Education Foundation
- National Night Out
- Nepal Youth Foundation
- Project Graduation
- Large print Reader’s Digest for three nursing homes
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Altrusa International of Copperas Cove’s community projects include:
- Appreciation treats for the city firefighters and police officers on Valentine’s Day
- Appreciation lunches for city departments
- Game night at one of the nursing homes
- Make a Difference Day – distribute books to all Head Start students
- Book distribution for all Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders in the school district
- Packing bags with food for underprivileged children
- Collecting money and clothing for Communities in Schools
- Christmas bags for single working women
- Host quarterly blood drives

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP INFO
GUIDELINES FOR MEMBERSHIP:
1. Members are required to work on one service project and are strongly encouraged to work on more than one.
2. Members are required to take part in fund raising activities by donating time and/ or money to the Foundation.
3. Members are expected to attend business meetings to offer input and vote on club business.
4. Members are expected to attend program meetings.
5. Members are expected to pay for their meals during the meetings
6. Members are expected to pay their dues promptly.

VOLUNTEER HOURS:
Members are required to keep track of their service in the following three (3) volunteer-hour categories.
A. Community Service Hours - Community Service involvement entails service projects and activities sanctioned by Altrusa, as documented in a club’s minutes. Service hours include time spent in planning, preparation, execution and evaluation of fund-raisers and service projects. (Operating and internal fundraisers used to fund the administrative operating budget do not qualify for any service hours, but hours spent working on the Foundation fundraisers do count.)
B. Member Services Hours - Altrusa's member services include services such as production of the newsletter, board or committee meetings, leadership-development workshops, International Representation at Conference, etc.
C. Other Volunteer Hours - Club member participation in non-Altrusa community service activities includes volunteer work, for example, in hospitals, schools, libraries, not-for-profit organizations, and activities such as mentoring, tutoring, etc.
